"EDITORS CORNER"
Dear NT-ers,

This newsletter has been issued for a year without interruptions
and we have just broken the 15,000 subscribers! Thank you for
your support and the many acknowledgements we have received
from you. It is a pleasure to provide this service to the NT
community, and highly instructive for us as well.

This time you will find the newsletter is a little shorter
than usual, and the simple reason is that your editor has
some family over from Europe and is taking a little time off
to show them the lovely area of Tampa Bay in Florida!

But we _do_ have some interesting news, not the least that we
are organizing our first Virtual Conference coming Thursday
in the Sunbelt Cafe! In the Fault Tolerance ChatRoom, 5 to 6pm
US Eastern Time on March 6-th we'll have two heavyweights
from the world's leading vendor of NT Fault Tolerance Software
OCTOPUS TECHNOLOGIES. On-Line in the Sunbelt Cafe will be CEO
Dave Crocker and Senior Vice President for Technology Alan
Rabinowitz. These guys are complete experts regarding NT Fault
Tolerance Technology and future directions. Here is your chance:
"everything you wanted to know about it but were afraid to ask"

MARCH 6, 5 TO 6 PM EST AT http://www.ntsoftdist.com/suncafe.htm
<<< BE THERE! :-) >>>

Last but not least, I have changed my email address for this
newsletter. The old one was stu@3adata.com which was an old
domain I was using. The NEW one is stu@ntnews.com which is the
same domain name as the website where this newsletter resides.
Could you make a note of it? Thanks!

Warm regards,

Stu

download these new versions and reinstall with your existing

3. "NT RELATED NEWS"

* WIN NT MAGAZINE HAS UPDATES ABOUT SP2
There are several new and/or updated references on Windows NT
Magazine's web site that will help you sort through the benefits
of SP2 and potential SP2 pitfalls.
For example, did you know that the original Kernel hotfix has been
changed? There is a new Kernel hotfix that replaces the old one and
fixes some problems with anti-virus software! The SP2 Info Center on
WinNTMag.com has been updated to include this hot tidbit as well as
information on new hotfixes, bugs, and workarounds.
From the March issue of Windows NT Magazine, there are two articles
that have been posted on WinNTMag.com and address SP2; a feature article
by Jonathan Chau, and a commentary by Mark Smith on why SP2 has had so
many problems. (Lookout Microsoft!)

* UNDO DEPT:

One of our attentive readers sent me the following and of course
he is right. My youthful enthusiasm carried me away. I have to eat
a healthy dose of crow <grin> Some other readers commented as well.
"There is a big difference between outshipping Novell 6 to 1, and
growing 6 times faster than Novell. The text seems to say the latter,
while your headline says the former." Peter

Thanks Pete! I'm always ready to be corrected when I go off the rails.

* NEW NT RESOURCES FOR YOU

Rusten@flinet.com sent me the following:

"We run the largest Windows NT Links and Internet Related Resources
site on the Internet. We have recently integrated custom HTML BBS,
and added several other features. Although we receive over 5,000

the site are:

4."THIRD PARTY NEWS"

* NEW RELEASE OF DISKEEPER 2.0 AVAILABLE

Our contact at Executive Software wrote us the following good news:
The new release of Diskeeper 2.0 is now on the Executive Software Web
site. I apologize for the delay. There were a couple of errors that
had to be fixed. These were not in the actual code, so they don't
apply to the Diskeeper Lite. This release contains the fix for the
problem of Diskeeper freezing during operation. Go here to get your
latest version: http://www.execsoft.com

* NEW PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT: RAS MANAGER

Control your remote clients with RAS Manager.
Every day in the networking world, one truth holds self-evident:
There are never enough resources to go around. That's why RAS Manager[tm]
was created. What is RAS? Whether your people are on a plane to Paris
or in a basement in Boston, Microsoft's Remote Access Service (RAS)
gives them the ability to logon to your network through any phone
line. Your people can have full use of your network resources if they
can get a RAS connection.

Why Manage RAS? Phone lines are limited. It only takes a few careless
users to tie up ALL your RAS resources. Uncontrolled long distance
charges can chip away at your organization=92s profits.

RAS Manager is a client/server application that provides full-time
control, real-time monitoring, and session-by-session accounting for
RAS connections on a user-by-user basis. RAS Manager lets you:

- Establish and automatically enforce a RAS management policy
- Generate RAS use information for your corporate charge back system
- Allow or deny RAS access to users
- Control the length of RAS sessions
- Limit RAS access to specific servers
- Specify network peak- and off-hour time limits
- Create custom time remaining online messages

RAS Manager gives you control of your RAS resources, and automatically
enforces your policies. RAS Manager sets the standard for controlling
remote access to Windows NT networks.

30-day Beta Eval now downloadable at: http://www.ntsoftdist.com/rasman.htm

(RAS Manager is a trademark of NTP Software.)

"HINTS AND TIPS"

* Sunbelt Security Suite: KSA / Fortress-NT / TEM

This month we have a special offer where we combine 3 useful tools
in a package that covers all your basic NT security needs.

1) KSA is a terrific tool that allows you to run an audit and get
a report card where the vulnerabilities in your network are exposed
so you can correct them.

2) Fortress-NT allows you to automatic log-off idle users and set
log-on and log-off times for each nt-workstation. This ensures
internal security policies are complied with, and resources are
freed up.

3) TEM allows you to delegate tasks to trusted local system admins
to perform security related jobs like resetting passwords and
creating new users.

The three bought together gets you a very attractive discount. Call
your Account Rep at 1-800-688-8404 and ask for the Security Suite!
